Technique described in my tutorial is entirely improvised,
but
it works well for me, giving a good amount of control over the process
and results.
Some inspiration was provided by “The Layer Mask”
technique described here. Since
there is no layer mask in PdN yet, we will use two excellent plugins
instead: Curves+ v2.4
(get it here) and Gaussian Blur Channel
(get it here).
Particular
curve shapes and blur amounts were selected to match my sample image.
Take it as a rough guideline only; feel free to propose improvements!

made on fullsize 6MP image.

process an HDR photo with most cameras and proper HDR software.

very own HDR photo and process it like a pro. What you will need:
A camera that allows you to adjust exposure settings.
Tone Mapping Software (In this tutorial we will use
Photomatix, which is the most popular way to create HDR's.)
