About John: View John Gilster's profile on LinkedIn

VCARD John BELIEVES in the open-source paradigm and tries to offer you free solutions to almost any issue.  However, he has spent many hours studying YOUR problems and needs to eat too!  You can REALLY help out with a SMALL 5$ donation to help him get the groceries!  OR if John has done work or consulted with you, buy his family dinner with the $25 paypal button below.  ($25 is really cheap compared to computer stores who charge a $100/job minimum with no guarantees!)  If you don't use paypal, feel free to write John for an alternative.   He WILL work for food!!  And NO he doesn't want you to buy him a beer....

John got his first "computer" an ADM3A dumb terminal with a Hayes 300 baud smartmodem at  around 8 years old. He quickly learned to access VAX and Unix servers. His first personal computer(PC) was a ZORBACP/M z80 machine on which he learned a variety of programming languages. His second computer was a Televideo 802h with a whole 64 kilobytes of RAM and a 20 Megabyte Harddrive.  The arrival of MS/DOS was a chance to quickly advance in computer systems. He was around for the first personal computers, eg. the Texas Instruments 99/4a, Commodore PET and Commodore 64. Although he originally hated the arrival of Windows 2.0 with it's GUI he learned how to run such systems with great proficiency and became a network consultant (installing mostly Lantastic networks) during the late 80's and early 90's, before the coming of HTTP protocols and the world wide web(www). He is now heavily involved with HTML, web design, and all aspects of modern computing. He has been involved in computers and networking his whole life and has had a variety of careers including Heavy Equipment operation, writing, networking, Mechanical/ electronic/ computer troubleshooting and repair. He has a Bachelors degree in Biology with minors or minor equivalency in Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, German, and Biochemistry. John is now 38 and enjoys spending time with his two year old son.Charles Darwin Has A Posse
